Adflo low battery alarm: what it means and what you can check
Ownership information, not safety advice. Does not replace training or a workplace RPE assessment.
Symptom
The bottom bar of the battery indicator flashes and the audible battery alarm sounds while you're wearing the Adflo PAPR.
What it means
This is 3M's own "Bottom bar of battery indicator flashes; battery alarm sounds" fault, caused by low battery voltage. The Specifications section describes the exact sequence: during roughly the last 15–30 minutes of charge the bottom bar flashes one second on, one second off, and the audible alarm beeps four times in two seconds, repeating every 30 seconds; in the final 15–60 seconds the alarm switches to a fast beep every half-second, and the unit shuts down about 30 seconds after that fast beep starts.
Steps you can do yourself
-
Leave the contaminated area
Exit the work area as soon as the low-battery alarm activates — don't try to finish the task on the remaining charge.
The manual is explicit: "Leave the contaminated area immediately if any of the following conditions occur: ... The low airflow or low battery alarms trigger."
-
Fully charge or fit a replacement battery pack
Fully charge the battery pack with the correct Adflo charger, or fit a fully charged replacement pack, before returning to work.
3M's troubleshooting table gives exactly these two corrective actions for this fault: "Fully charge the battery pack" and "Install a new fully charged 3M Adflo PAPR Battery Pack." Charge only with the matching approved charger for your battery's region/generation — mixing Li-ion packs with the wrong charger is outside the approved configuration.

-
Check the battery contacts and latch
Inspect the battery pack's electrical contacts and the hinge/latch for damage, bending, dirt, or moisture — a poor connection can cause a premature or false low-battery reading.
The manual's own installation instructions say to "inspect the hinge and latch on the battery pack and ensure they are clean and undamaged" before charging or fitting it, and its wider troubleshooting table treats a damaged battery contact as a checkable cause of battery-related faults.
