How to replace battery in Viking welding helmet?

Updated 2026-07-04

The first step is identifying the correct genuine replacement, not the removal steps — Lincoln’s Viking PAPR uses one of two Li-ion battery packs depending on which system you have: the standard KP3937-1 (9 h runtime, 3 h charge, used in the K3930-4 system) or the extended KP3938-1 (16 h runtime, 4.5 h charge, used in the K3930-6 system), both charged on the KP3932-1 charger. Both are rated for roughly 500 charge cycles per Lincoln Electric’s own publication EE14.747.

We don’t hold the illustrated step-by-step removal/fitting procedure for the physical battery swap in our verified records, so rather than guess at torque, latch or connector details we don’t have, follow the instructions in Lincoln’s own Viking PAPR manual (or an authorised Lincoln service point) for the physical steps. Fitting anything other than the genuine KP3937-1/KP3938-1 pack and KP3932-1 charger takes the respirator outside its NIOSH-approved configuration — this is a manufacturer-listed fit under our four-tier system, and the approval label on your unit is the authority on what’s permitted.
