What is the lifespan of a PAPR filter?
Updated 2026-07-07
There’s no single universal number — PAPR filter life depends on the environment, the contaminant, and which filter stage you mean, so always follow your own unit’s manufacturer instructions rather than a generic figure.
For example, Kemppi’s PFU 210e operating manual (for its particle filter, part SP010415) recommends changing the filter after every work shift in very dirty environments, and warns never to attempt to clean a filter with pressurised air or reuse it. For the gas filter stage (A1B1E1, part SP009934), the manual instead gives a trigger-based rule: replace it immediately if you can smell the contaminant through it, since gas filters don’t have a fixed working-life indicator the way a clogging particle filter does.
Because filter life is condition-dependent and manufacturer-specific, check the operating manual for your exact PAPR model and never extend a filter’s use past the manufacturer’s stated replacement trigger.
